Putin Outplays Biden Again, Turning Down Last-Minute, Last-Ditch Summit

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has just made a big fool out of President Joe Biden.

Putin keeps amassing troops and implicitly threatening to invade and destroy Ukraine. Biden isn’t standing his ground, but instead is caving and appeasing the Moscow autocrat.

Biden ‘Agreed’ to a Putin Summit…

As Putin already has some 200,000 troops armed to the teeth right on the borders of Ukraine, Biden’s White House on Sunday announced that Sleepy Joe agreed to hold a last-minute summit meeting with Putin.

According to the announcement, the summit got brokered by French leader Emmanuel Macron, who met with Putin in Moscow and then had a telephone conversation with him.

According to Sunday’s announcement by the White House, Kabul Joe agreed “in principle” to a summit meeting for talks with the Russian autocrat at the initiative of French leader Macron.

The sole prerequisite for holding the summit was Russia doesn’t attack Ukraine in the meantime.

…But Putin Hasn’t Agreed to Biden Summit!

In her comments, Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki reiterated once again that the US government is “committed to pursuing diplomacy” up until when “an invasion begins” – which may have been a bizarre choice of words.

Psaki also repeated Biden’s threat that the United States is also ready to slap “swift and severe” sanctions on Russia if Moscow decides to attack its weaker, democratic former Soviet neighbor.

Speaking during the Munich Security Conference, an annual security forum in Germany, Vice President Kamala Harris threatened Putin with devastating Western sanctions against Russia in the event of an invasion.

In a TV interview on Sunday, Biden’s Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in turn, touted the potential for last-minute, diplomatic efforts to avert what would be the biggest war in Europe since World War II.

He confirmed he is due to meet once again with Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, on Thursday, unless, of course, Russia has invaded Ukraine by then.

However, the Kremlin’s reaction to the announcement of the White House that Biden has agreed to a summit with Putin was nothing short of a slap in the face.

Putin’s own press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, made it clear the Russian leader hadn’t really committed fully to the holding of a summit meeting in order to avoid his potential launching of a war with Ukraine.

Peskov bluntly told Vesti, a Russian news service, that right now, it is “premature” to talk about the organizing of a Biden-Putin summit, even though the two leaders could agree on holding a telephone or real meeting.

To up the ante even further, Putin’s press secretary declared “any spark” in the current military tension could cause “irreparable consequences.” It couldn’t be plainer that neither Russia nor Putin takes Biden seriously in the slightest.
