Transgender Killer’s SHOCKING Confession – Unbelievable Motive!

A transgender-identifying man who shot both parents to death inside their Utah home — because his mother stopped a gender transition surgery — has been sentenced to consecutive life terms and expressed no regret for the killings.

A Family Destroyed Over a Surgery Dispute

On June 18, 2024, Mia Bailey — born Colin Bailey — shot and killed parents Joseph and Gail Bailey inside their Washington City, Utah, home. Bailey’s brother Cory heard gunshots and his mother’s screams, escaped the house, and called 911 from a neighbor’s home. Police arrested Bailey after a standoff and recovered a 9mm handgun believed to be the murder weapon. Bailey later admitted to shooting his father twice and his mother multiple times, then returning to ensure she was dead.

Bailey told investigators the decision to kill his parents came directly after his mother contacted the hospital and canceled a scheduled gender transition surgery. That single act of parental intervention, according to Bailey’s own account to police, was the trigger for a premeditated double murder. The admission was captured on interrogation video and later confirmed through a guilty plea entered in November 2025 to two counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated assault.

Court Hands Down Consecutive Life Sentences

Washington County District Court Judge Barnes sentenced Bailey to consecutive prison terms on all three counts following the guilty plea. The Washington County Attorney’s office confirmed the consecutive sentencing in a public release, meaning Bailey must serve each sentence in sequence rather than simultaneously. The outcome effectively ensures Bailey will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

At sentencing, Bailey’s attorney read a statement on his behalf expressing sorrow and acknowledging an unstable mental state at the time of the killings. The statement included the line, “I am sincerely, deeply sorry to my family that I committed this,” and suggested that mental health intervention might have prevented the murders. The court heard the mitigation argument and proceeded with consecutive sentences regardless.

Mental Illness in the Background, Accountability at the Forefront

Family members described Bailey to authorities as schizophrenic, delusional, and paranoid in the period leading up to the murders. Reports indicate Bailey had claimed to be poisoned and surveilled, had accumulated significant debt pursuing transgender procedures, and had previously pointed a gun at his brother Cory, who obtained a protective order as a result. The pattern of behavior painted a picture of a deeply troubled individual whose violence was not without warning signs.

Mental illness is a serious condition that deserves compassion and treatment — but it is not a blank check for murder. The court’s decision to impose consecutive sentences reflects exactly that principle. Two parents are dead because their son wanted a surgery and their mother said no. Whatever psychological struggles Bailey faced, Joseph and Gail Bailey paid for a parental decision with their lives. The justice system, to its credit, did not allow a narrative of victimhood to override accountability for a double homicide that Bailey himself confessed to in detail and to which he later pleaded guilty in open court.
